The way to do more: work less
Hours, that is.
An article today out of Wales (via Lifehacker) reports that workers who take lunch breaks are actually more productive. The study referenced stated that many employees take a total of LESS than two hours per week on lunch breaks, or less than 20 minutes a day. With more people combining internet surfing and RSS reading with their lunch “breaks”, fewer are actually leaving the office.
“Employees should realise that the time spent away from the office, even if for only 10 minutes, will help to clear their mind and help them focus on their job upon their return.”
Now, I’ll admit, I’m guilty of this as well. Sometimes lunch is a great time for me to write a blog post or make a few phone calls. Looking forward to the wonderful weather coming up as part of the Canadian winter, I have to say, removes even more temptation to leave the coziness of the office. However, looks like it might be time to force myself to start, even if its for a quick 10 or 15 minute walk around the block.
Are you guilty of the same? Does your desk double as a lunch table? Let us know in the comments.
