Quick and Dirty: Tweaking GTD’s Weekly Review

As I’ve mentioned in the past, my productivity/time management system of choice is Getting Things Done, or GTD.  Thus, like many GTD aficionados, I keep my eyes open for new tweaks to the system, or ways to help make the habits easier.  While I’m (thankfully) not one of the people who completely overhauls their system on a seemingly weekly basis, every now and then I make a change that works for me.So today, as I was doing my weekly review (usually Fridays, but I was working from home last Friday and didn’t have access to all my files), I thought I’d share a quick article I came across this morning.

Productivity Blogger Scott H Young has shared 12 ways to upgrade your weekly review.  Through adding slightly different steps or modules to your review, you can get more out of it.  One of my faves is:

Entertainment Review. Beyond just work, what fun and interesting things would you like to do next week. Boredom is usually a lack of planning. By picking out potentially interesting activities for the next week, you already have a list of things to do when you get some free time.

This is an interesting way to really look back at the fun you’ve had in the past week, and if you’ve had a rough week, it’s that much more important!  Thinking of the good times you’ve had can help improve your mood, energy level, and have positive effects on productivity, health, and more!

So check through these, see if one or two works for you, and try incorporating it into your next review.  Additionally, if your review becomes more useful, it might be even easier to keep that habit going as well!

Cheers,

Adam
