Talk is cheap
I know, it’s really quite trite to say such a thing, and using it as the basis for a post (aka. visual talk), may seem a little counterproductive. But trust me, there’s a point.
One of the challenges we face in personal development, whether its in work-life balance, productivity, financial health, personal health or anything, is that talk is cheap. One can look online and find hundreds or thousands of people talking about what needs to be done in order to improve “Aspect A” of your life. You can find advice columns and posts, tips, tricks, lists, forum discussions, and lots of others. Looking in the self-help section of a Chapters or a Borders gives you a ton of other choices, usually also quite affordable.
How is having all this information available a challenge? Well, besides finding the right mix of options for you, which is a discussion for another day, the true challenge is moving from reading or talking about something, and actually doing something about it.
So what does this lead me to? Why, to action, of course.
The past few months I’ve found that writing LiveWorkBalance has been a great experience and something I’ve really enjoyed. I’ve been able to try a few new things and share them with others. I’ve loved the writing, and I plan to continue to do so.
But something has seemed out of whack. I was frequently writing about work-life balance, but not always working on improving my own. Starting this blog at the same time as getting a promotion at work and starting to plan a wedding was an ambitious task, and I plan to continue with all of them. However, in order to maintain my own balance, I’m also going to follow some of my own advice.
I’m asking for help.
That’s right, I’m coming to you, the readers, with a request.
In the past I’ve asked for suggestions as to what you’d like to see me write about. Now, I’m taking this a step farther, and asking for you to contribute some of your time, knowledge and experience, and write an article to share with the LWB community.
Have you always been interested in work-life balance but never had a forum in which to share your thoughts? How about you enjoy writing, but don’t want the hassles of building and maintaining your own blog? Or maybe you’re just bored one afternoon and have the urge to write.
If any of these describe you (or even if they don’t!) and you’d like to help out, drop me a line.
You don’t need to be an expert. As I’ve said before, part of the joy of blogging is the ability to share in the learning process. And based on the fact that my series on becoming an early riser is still among the most popular articles on this blog, I’d say that other feel the same.
So if you’ve got questions, suggestions or articles, email me at adam@liveworkbalance.com and we can chat.
This doesn’t mean that I won’t be writing anymore, or keeping things up to date. Far from it, as this is still a project that’s important to me. This is about increasing the value to you, the readers, and growing this discussion on work-life balance.
So thank you in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Adam
